Little Poland in Nepal

In Summer 2015 we have established „Little Poland in Nepal” Foundation in order to help the victims of an earthquake that occurred in April and May this year. Hundret of thousands of people lost their homes and possessions, and almost 10.000 perished because of the calamity. Many institutions, organizations and people from abroad, as well as the Nepalese, commited themselves to helping the victims. Sujan Pandey and Magdalena Pietruszka-Pandey, owners of Exploring Nepal Treks & Adventures, came up with the idea of establishing Little Poland in Nepal as they were helping the inhabitants of villages near Kathmandu. The first project of it was reconstruction of Dumre village, Nuwakot district, Sunkhani region – about 29 km from Kathmandu. The village was completely destroyed, over a dozen of houses and one school need to be rebuild from scratch. Anna Ekielska has joined the board of the foundation.

The inhabitants of Dumre – Little Poland – has got already new school for their children (mostly thanks to the help of Poles). One big drinking water tank has been also built in the village. We hope that the tourists travelling to Nepal might spend a few days in the village. That’s why we build there Polish House which will be a community hall for the villager with a library and meeting room as well as small guest house for volunteers (moslty doctors, teachers), sponsors and other wanting to visit this place. It will be also a place for exchanging knowledge, experiences, make warm relations between Westerns and Nepalese. Tourists from all over the world still travel to Nepal to go for trek or make great cultural tours as Nepal offers always majestic Himalaya, wonderful people and rich culture.
Little Poland in Nepal is not only a physical place, it is much more. It’s a symbol of a long-term commitment to help the suffering people. It’s an idea of supporting and sharing with the Nepalese – a nation stricken by calamities, but still full of wonderful, proud, friendly and open people.
Thus, the aim of the “Little Poland in Nepal” Foundation is not only financing the rebuilding of Dumre, but also providing help to the Nepalese in a variety of ways: financing education of children, treating the ill, supporting the poor, helping women find jobs, etc. Nepal will still need aid for a long time. The Nepalese are truly great people, as even without such calamities they endure the troubles of everyday lives and never give up. Always with a smile, always moving forward. Let us help them bring back the normality, make them live without worries about their future or the faith of their children. Share with what we have, as we have much more than they do. Give the Nepalese our hearts and long-term support. Maybe they do not ask for it, but they still need it.

The names of sponsors supporting the project in any way will be mentioned on a memory boards on the new buildings.
