Manaslu has a unique untouched environment which is exceptionally rich in biodiversity that has made this region one of the finest tourist destinations of Nepal. The majestic Himalayan ranges in this area consist of cultural diversities and natural scenery with high altitude romantic glacier lakes and fascinating flora and fauna. The Manaslu region offers a variety of trekking options. The most popular Manaslu trekking route of 177 km skirts the Manaslu massif over the pass down to Annapurna. The Nepalese Government permitted trekking of this circuit in 1991. The trekking trail follows an ancient salt-trading route along the Budi Gandaki river. On the way 10 peaks over 6500m are visible, including a few over 7000m. The highest pass reached along the trek is the Larkya La at an elevation of 5235m.
