Island Peak + Everest Base Camp/ 21 days, 6189m

Island Peak is one of the famous peaks in Khumbu region. It is located between the Ama Dablam and Lhoste mountains chains on the top of Chhukung  glacier. It’s also known as Imja Tse. Imja Tse not only provides an enjoyable climb but also provides some of the most spectacular scenery of Himalayas in the Everest region. Seen from the summit the giant mountains: Nuptse (7879m), Lhotse (8501m), Lhotse Middle Peak (8410m) and Lhotse Shar (8383m) make a semi circle in the north. The views of Makalu (8475m) in the east, Baruntse and Amadablam in the south add more charm in climbing Island Peak. For many mountaineers climbing Island Peak marks the beginning of climbing on Himalayas to prepare for a big Himalaya expedition in Nepal in the future. For some mountaineers the peak stands for the purpose of acclimatization before heading to bigger mountain climbing. Trekking to Kala Patthar or Everest Base Camp is best suited for acclimatization before proceeding to the climbing on Island Peak.

Island Peak was first ascended in by a British expedition that included Tenzing Norgay. Eric Shipton’s party named the peak in 1953, as it is resembled an Island in a sea of Ice. The magnificent views from the summit, however, are certainly a fitting reward for your efforts. Before climbing Island Peak, we trek up the Dudh Kosi valley from Lukla, passing through Namche and Tengboche on our way to Kala Patthar and Everest Base Camp. After being rested and feeling physically fit and acclimatized, we then head up the beautiful Imja Khola valley towards Island Peak. Besides trekking adventure we also get to witness pristine Sherpa villages and ever-so-serene monasteries. With ponderous memories of the trekking earlier done, we retrace our route back through Namche to Lukla, and from there on we fly back to Kathmandu. You will be proud of yourself after this expedition.
