Lobuche Peak/ 18 days, 6119m

Lobuche Peak is situated just above the Lobuche village in Khumbu Region. This peak is not far from the Mt. Everest but only few kilometers nearer to the way of this world’s highest mountain. Lobuche Peak has its two different summits, one is Lobuche East Peak (6119m) and the other is Lobuche West Peak (6145m). A contineous ridge connects them but there is still a sharp gap and considerable distance between them. Lobuche East is recognised as trekking peak  where as Lobuche West is known as expedition peak. Laurence Nielson and Ang Gyalzen Sherpa made the first ascent to Lobuche East on 25th April 1984. Lobuche East is reached by descending a marked notch and climbing steep snowy slopes to the top.

The route of Lobuche Peak climbing starts from Lobuche village via South bear and South Ridge. Both the Peaks of Lobuche are dramatic and very similar in geometry, forming three-ridged pyramid on each. They dominate the view from the Everest Base Camp trek while approaching Lobuche village located at the base of the Southeast shoulder of the Lobuche EastPeak. The South and Southeast Ridges form a typical rock triangle extending to the Khumbu Glacier sideways moraine and easily identifiable from the trek and in particularly from the hill with stone memorials.

The journey to this trip starts with a short flight to Lukla. Climbing Lobuche peak offers an amazing panoramic view of mountains including Mt. Everest, Mt Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt Pumari and some others. You can also see some mountains of Rongbuk side of Tibet. It is more challenging than climbing Island Peak, but it is really worth it!
