The Everest region has gained its fame due to trekking, mountaineering, peak climbing and expeditions. The main goal of the trekkers to this region is of course to observe the world highest mountains. Among the major destinations of expeditions here Mt Everest (8848m) is the most popular being the highest mountain in the World. Everest trekking area (called also Solu Khumbu area) is located in eastern part of the country and protected by Sagarmatha National Park – established in 1976 on the space of 1148square kilometers. The Everest region is known as the home of Sherpa people and the mysterious Yeti. This part of Nepal is also interesting because of the unique Buddhist culture. The trek here leads via Dudh Koshi valley and forests of blooming rhododendron, blue pine and fir. Highlights of this region trek include Namche Bazar, the Tengboche monastery and Kala Patthar and the route to the Everest Base Camp. This area is abundant with high-alpine wildlife that includes the mountain yak, Himalayan ther, muskdeer, pikka, lophophores and many more.
